[Jun 28, 2008 8:06] Email phishing scam targeting WebMail users has been reported. More Information
This page contains generic setup information that should allow most Wi-Fi certified (how to tell) compatible devices to connect to the UVa network in an unencrypted manner. Due to the large number of aftermarket cards and the difficulty of configuring some operating systems and non-laptop devices we can not guarantee success.
Requirements
- Wi-Fi certified device (How to Tell)
- For UVa faculty, staff, and students, wireless cards must be registered on the Network Registration site. Guests will need to register either with a PIN they have been issued or by a a UVa sponsor who will register the wireless card on the guest's behalf.
ITC highly recommends UVa affiliated wireless users upgrade their operating system and wireless hardware so they can establish an encrypted connection on the cavalier wireless network. Guests are encouraged to make use of any VPN resources provided by their own institutions for network data protection.
Configure Your Device to Access the wahoo Wireless Network
Manually configured your device to access the unencrypted wahoo wireless network. The “wahoo” identifier is not broadcast and will not be automatically discovered by your device. Use the following values to establish a connection:
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Network Name or SSID | wahoo (lowercase) |
| Network type | Infrastructure or AP (not "ad hoc") |
| Encryption | None (no WEP or WPA; see security statement) |
Consult your card manufacturer's documentation for how to accomplish this. Beyond that, configuration options are the same for your wireless device that they would be for any wired network adapter.
