An instructor converting a course into a shared experience may find that materials collected and produced over a long teaching career are not in a format that lends itself to electronic presentation. This document discusses strategies for using older media as part of a videoconferencing session.

Overheads

Overhead transparencies may be shared via a document camera attached to a videoconferencing appliance, or may be scanned and shared from the electronic whiteboard application on PC-based clients or NetMeeting clients.

Slides

35mm slides can similarly be converted into digital images for use with NetMeeting or a PC-based client. They can even be printed for use with a document camera attached to a videoconference appliance. In general, almost any item can be accommodated, but the format may need to be altered. Planning ahead is crucial. U.Va. Printing Services can assist with many copy needs.
