Unix Systems Group

Mission

The Unix Systems Group provides system administration services for hundreds of machines throughout the University of Virginia, some owned by ITC and some by other UVa departments. These devices include IBM RS6000s and the SP research computer; Sun and Silicon Graphics systems; and the Network Appliance that provides file services for both Unix and Windows NT systems.

Services provided by the group encompass such tasks as system installation and configuration, setup of Web servers and other applications, troubleshooting, backup and restore, security, and print queue setup and maintenance.

Staff

The Unix Systems staff operate as a team, with all members contributing equally to the overall mission of providing Unix operating system support to the University community. Each member of the team, however, also contributes special skills of his or her own. The following links describe the roles of the group members and provide contact information for each.
