Installing Security Patches on an SGI running IRIX

To install security patches on IRIX 6.x, follow the following instructions:

1.  Point your web browser to http://www.sgi.com/Support/security/security.html.

2.  Check the Advisories to find the patch which fixes your problem.

3.  Download the patch you need to a local directory and untar it.

4.  Become root if you aren't already.

5.  Type the command inst.

6.  At the Inst> prompt, type install patchSGxxxxxxx where xxxxxxx is the patch number.

7.  Initiate the installation sequence. Type Inst> go.

8.  After completing the installation process, exit the inst program by typing Inst> quit.

9.  Some patches will require a reboot of the host.  This is probably a good idea anyway.
