SGI Packages to Install

The following are lists of software packages contained on the IRIX 6.5 CD's. These lists are meant to be used in conjunction with the "inst" program which marks certain packages to be installed and others not to be installed by default. Those listed here as packages to "keep" are ones that are marked to be installed by default that are recommended not to be installed. Use the "keep package" option of "inst" when making your package selection. Those listed here to "install" are ones that are not marked to be installed by default that are recommended to be installed. Use the "install package" option of "inst" when making your package selection. This list is based on the motive of saving disk space. The following list will take up about 600 MB of disk space, so if your system has a 1 GB drive this would be recommended. If you have a large system disk you may want to install all the packages marked to be installed by default and add those extra packages in the "install" list as well. This will take up about 1.5 GB of disk space. Descriptions of all the packages are contained in the release notes found on the CD's.
