Led by Apple certified instructors, these are hands-on courses, designed for IT professionals who are responsible for planning, maintaining, and integrating Mac OS X workstations and solutions into their network environments.
These classes are open to both U.Va. and non-U.Va. affiliated persons. Successful completion of these courses will prepare you for exams to achieve certification in various areas (e.g. Apple Certified Help Desk Specialist (ACHDS), Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC)).

MacOS 101: Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.5
Summary Course Description
Mac OS X Support Essentials is a three-day, hands-on course that provides an intense and in-depth exploration of troubleshooting on Mac OS X. This course is designed to give students a tour of the breadth of functionality of Mac OS X and the best methods for effectively supporting users of Mac OS X systems.
This class is designed for help desk specialists, technical coordinators, service technicians, and others who support Mac OS X customers. This could include technical support personnel in businesses that use Mac OS X systems for general productivity or creative design, service technicians who support Mac OS X customers, and technical coordinators or power users who manage networks of Mac OS X systems for their organization—such as teachers and technology specialists who manage classroom networks or computer labs.
MacOS 105: Supporting Mac OS X v10.4 for Windows Administrators
Summary Course Description
This three-day course is geared toward Windows system administrators and IT professionals who also need to support Mac OS X users. This course assumes students are experienced computer users but have never used a Mac computer before. Therefore, the course starts with a basic introduction to the Mac OS X interface and then quickly proceeds to in-depth coverage of ongoing maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of Mac OS X client computers.
MacOS 201: Mac OS X Server Essentials v10.5
Summary Course Description
Mac OS X Server Essentials is a four-day course designed to give technical coordinators and entry-level system administrators the skills, tools and knowledge to implement and maintain a Mac OS X Server-based system. Students will learn how to install and configure Mac OS X Server to provide network-based services, such as file sharing, authentication, and printing. Tools for efficiently managing and deploying Mac OS X are also covered.

This two-day course is designed for system administrators who need to streamline the process of installing and configuring Mac OS X on large numbers of computers. Hands-on labs and lectures expose students to best practices and troubleshooting methodologies, while providing detailed coverage of tools, tips, and tricks for deploying and maintaining software on Mac OS X systems. This class is for Mac OS X system administrators who are tasked with installing and configuring a large number of computers running Mac OS X.
MacOS 330: Directory Services Integration and Administration (Client) v10.4
Summary Course Description
The two-day Directory Services client-only course is designed for system administrators and IT professionals who need to configure Macintosh computers to access directory services in a mixed platform network. This class is for Mac OS X system administrators who are tasked with configuring computers running Mac OS X to access directory services in a multi-platform environment.
MacOS 340: Security Best Practices for Mac OS X v10.4
Summary Course Description
The three-day Security Best Practices course provides system and security administrators with the knowledge and tools necessary to secure Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server against local and network attacks. Solutions covered in the class include Mac OS X specific features as well as third party tools for monitoring and analysis. Students will design a security policy template in class to be used as a starting point for their IT security decisions. This course is a combination of lecture and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience.
Media 300: Podcast and Streamed Internet Media Administration
This three-day Podcast and Streamed Internet Media Administration course provides system administrators and IT professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to create, manipulate, and distribute rich media over the Internet. The course provides an introduction to preparing, enhancing, and compressing audio and video files using various Apple utilities. Students will also gain experience troubleshooting Internet media solutions, and have the opportunity to define and implement an Internet media solution specific to their needs. The course is taught through a combination of lecture and hands-on case study exercises, providing students with valuable and practical real-world experience.
