SecureFX for Windows

Making Connections to Additional Machines

This page provides instructions for adding connection profiles for sites not included in the standard distribution of SecureFX.

Creating Additional Session Profiles

  1. Open the Connect window by either clicking the Connect icon, or by selecting the File menu item near the top of the SecureFX window and selecting Connect from the menu that appears.
  2. In the Connect window that appears, click the New Session icon (see figure below); a Session Options dialog should appear.

  3. In the Session Options dialog that appears, type a name for the session to be created in the Name field, verify that SFTP is selected in the Protocol field (SFTP is the default protocol, and applies in most cases here at UVa), then select the SSH2 item in the Category column on the left (see figure below).

  4. In the Session Options dialog that appears (see figure below), fill in the Hostname field with the full name of the server to which you would like to connect. (In this case, blue.unix.virginia.edu is the name of the Home Directory Service server.) Leave the Port number alone (unless you know that you need to change it). The default Firewall is None. Fill in the Username field with your username if desired (in the form xxx9x - e.g., mst3k), and click OK.

  5. In the Connect dialog that appears (see figure below), a new entry with your newly-created session name should appear in your list of available servers; highlight the desired session and click Connect.
