Daylight Saving Time Changes

[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.

Changes in Daylight Saving Time (DST) may affect some computer systems and applications that continue to use the pre-2007 DST period.

New Daylight Saving Time Schedule

Beginning in 2007, DST starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. Previously DST spanned the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October. The United States Congress signed this change into law on August 8, 2005, as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Daylight Saving Time Schedule 2008-2010
Year DST Start DST End
New Previous Previous New
2008 March 9 April 6 October 26 November 2
2009 March 8 April 5 October 25 November 1
2010 March 14 April 4 October 31 November 7

As you can see from the table above, there's a three-week extension at the beginning of the DST schedule and one week at the end. These Extended DST Dates impacted some applications and operating systems in 2007; if your system has been properly patched since, no adjustments are likely to be necessary in 2009.
