Notes About Licensing Your Product after Installation
After the main part of the installation is complete, select the option of launching the License Authorization Wizard. The License Authorization Wizard allows you to obtain a license for SPSS for Windows.
If you fail to launch the wizard to obtain a license at this time, you can only use SPSS for Windows with all add-on modules enabled for a 14-day trial period. The trial period begins when you first use the product or add-on module. There is a separate trial period for each add-on module. After the trial period, you will not be able to run the application, or the menu item for the expired add-on module will no longer be available. Therefore, it is recommended that you launch the License Authorization Wizard and obtain a license as soon as possible.
Note: Licenses are tied to your computer’s hardware with a lock code. If you replace your computer or its hardware, you will have a new lock code and will need to repeat the authorization process.
Warning! The license is sensitive to time changes. If you must change the system time and then cannot run the product, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the product.
Using the License Authorization Wizard
If you don’t launch the License Authorization Wizard during installation, you can launch it after installation by:
Please have your authorization code from the ITC Research Computing Research Center Software Licensing Database ready for the authorization process. After the License Authorization Wizard launches, click Start to start the authorization process. Several authorization methods are available. Selecting the Internet connection is the preferred method for authorization.
Internet. If you have an Internet connection, this is the easiest method. You are required to enter only your authorization code, the longer number from the licensing database. The License Authorization Wizard automatically retrieves your license from SPSS Inc. After authorization, you do not need to be connected to the Internet to run SPSS for Windows.
Viewing Your License
You can view the license by running showlic.exe, which is located in the SPSS for Windows installation directory. Simply browse to this directory and double-click the file. You can then see the license expiration date and all of the add-on modules to which the license applies.
Running Multiple Versions of SPSS for Windows
Technically it is possible to install and run multiple versions of SPSS on the same computer for versions 7.5.2 and later. However, it is recommended that you keep your software up-to-date. Experience has shown that keeping up with the current version results in fewer difficulties than skipping several version numbers.
Note: While it is possible to run multiple instances of SPSS simultaneously and you can install multiple versions of SPSS on the same computer in different directories, you are strongly advised not to do so.
Upgrading from SPSS Version 12 for Windows
