S-Plus for Windows and Unix

Workshop description: A beginner's workshop (through both lecture and supervised work, integrated in a practicum format) on elementary use and overview of S-PLUS version 6.1 for Windows, including data file organization, data management, data import and export (from/to other formats and operating systems), and basic analysis. Use of S-PLUS on other platforms supported by ITC (Unix) will be addressed but not explicitly instructed. Both nights of the workshop include hands-on exercises for S-PLUS. Attendance of the first session or a working knowledge of S-PLUS is required for the second night. The notes from this workshop on S-PLUS are available on-line at: http://www.itc.virginia.edu/research/splus/training/

This workshop is no longer taught on a regular basis because of lack of interest. You can download the example data files and work through the exercises on your own using the link above or you can come to the ITC Research Computing Support Center (RCSC) in 244 Wilson Hall and work though the workshop notes on one of our computers (we have Windows, Macintosh and several types of Unix workstations) where you can ask questions as you go along.

If you want an actual class, then there are several logistically arrangements to establish, including needing a guaranteed five or six people who would attend, a mutually-agreeable time and a computer classroom. We can arrange all of this with you, if you have at least five or so people who can take the training together. If this is the case, please contact us at Res-Consult@Virginia.edu or 243-8800.

We highly recommend the self-paced approach. If you want assistance and structure, than contact us and arrange a time to do the training at our Center, where we can help you get started, answer questions as you go along and when you're ready, help you with the analysis of your data.
