INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSIGHTFUL MINER 8.0 (Windows) SUPPORTED PLATFORMS AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Insightful Miner for Windows is supported on the following platforms:

  • Windows® XP Professional Edition
  • Windows® XP Media Center Edition
  • Windows® 2000 Professional Edition
  • Windows® Vista

    These installation instructions are provided for installing the desktop editions. Please refer to the Insightful Miner 8 Installation & Administration Guide for more details and information on installing all editions.

    The minimum recommended system configuration is Pentium III with 512MB of RAM. You must have at least 335MB of free disk space for the typical installation (and, if not installing on Drive C:\, an additional 50MB free disk space on drive C:\ is required for the installation process).

    For Windows 2000, it is required that you have at least the following:

    Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later and Security Rollup Pack 1 (SRP1).

    Insightful Miner 8.0 can be installed even if previous versions are already installed; by default, this will be installed in a different directory. Do not install different versions of the product into the same directory.

    You must have full Administrator privileges to install Insightful Miner.

    INSTALLING INSIGHTFUL MINER

  • 1. First get three items from the licensing database: serial number, License authorization key and the executable file containing the actual Insightful Miner program. Visit UVA ITC licensing database on the web to register and download these items.
  • 2. Downloading the Insightful Miner product executable (.exe) file from the licensing database may take a few minutes.
  • 3. Double click on the .exe file and the Insightful Miner Setup window appears.
  • 4. Select "Install Insightful Miner on your system."
  • 5. Select all default options.

    After installing Insightful Miner, the Insightful Miner program group appears as an option under Programs when you click the Start button.

    By default, the installation program places a shortcut to Insightful Miner 8.0 on your desktop; you can simply double-click the shortcut icon to launch Insightful Miner.

    GETTING A LICENSE KEY

    Obtaining a license key for Insightful Miner 8.0 depends on your licensing eligibility. You should already have obtained your serial number and license key from the UVA ITC licensing database.

    Single-User (SU) 

         Most students will use this licensing method.  
     
     From the Start menu, choose Programs > Insightful Miner 8.0 > Wizard for 
     License Manager. This invokes the Insightful License Manager wizard, which guides 
     you through generating and installing your license key.

     You will need your license authorization code (LAC) to fulfill your license request.
     This should have been previously e-mailed to you; if you cannot locate this LAC,
     please contact Technical Support.

     If you attempt to start Insightful Miner without a license key, the wizard
     will start automatically. If you have any problems with license key fulfillment, see the
     next section.

    All Other License Types

    Go to http://keys.insightful.com, click "I have a License Authorization Code", and enter your LAC when prompted. For information on fulfilling the license request, see the help pages.

    UNINSTALLING INSIGHTFUL MINER

  • 1. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.
  • 2. Choose Insightful Miner from the list of installed programs and then click the Change/Remove button.
  • 3. When the Insightful Miner Setup screen is displayed, select the Remove option.
