Installation From Download Instructions for S-PLUS 7.0 on Windows
Standalone (Single User)
System Requirements
S-PLUS 7.0 is supported on the following Windows platforms (32-bit):
•Windows 2000
•Windows XP Home
•Windows XP Professional Edition
•Windows 2003 Server
To install S-PLUS, the minimum recommended system configuration is a Pentium III processor with 512MB of RAM and 450MB disk space.
You must be connected to the internet during the licensing and installation process. Once installation has been completed, you will not need to be connected to the internet in order to use this standalone version of S-PLUS 7.0.
Problems
occur with licensed software when there are discrepancies with computer
clocks. Make sure that your clock is correct,
and that the Time Zone is set to GMT-05:00 – Eastern Time (US &
Installation
Step 1. The S-PLUS 7.0 installer file is associated with a serial number which is linked to your license authorization code. All three may be obtained from the ITC licensing database. The license authorization code is used to generate your unique license keys which are required to run S-PLUS.
Step 2. Double click on the installer file. You will see the dialog box pictured below. Click "Yes" if you agree to the terms and contitions.
Step 3. Click "Setup" to begin the installation process.
Step 4. You are reminded to exit all programs and disable virus protection programs before proceeding. Once that is done, click on Next.
Step 5. Enter
Your Name,
Step 6. Review and accept the Software License Agreement in order to proceed, then click on Next.
Step 7. Users are encouraged to select the “Complete Setup” option if possible. Click on Next to continue.
Step 8. The default Destination folder for installation is C:\Program Files\Insightful\splus70. Do not change this folder unless necessary. Click Next to continue.
Step 9. The default S_PROJ folder is typically located at C:\Program Files\ Insightful\splus70\users\YourUserName Click on Next to continue.
Step 10. If possible retain the Start Menu options, and click Next.
Step 11. When setting the startup options, we recommend selecting “Commands Window opened” and “Object Explorer opened”. Then click Next.
Step 12. Review your setup summary, and click on Finish to proceed with the installation.
It will take several minutes to install the program. Do not run other programs at this time.
Step 13. (no screen shot shown). At this point it is advisable to deselect both “View the release notes” and “Launch the program.” You will be able to access the Release Notes under the Help menu once installation has been completed. Make sure that “Check for program updates online” is deselected as well; you will perform the update after licensing. Then click on Finish.
Step 14. When you start S-PLUS, you will begin the licensing process. Click on next.
Step 15. Enter the License Authorization Code you obtained from the licensing database and click on Next.
Step 16. Click on Finish.
Step 17. Click on OK.
Step 18. You must now apply the patch file obtained from the licensing database or our S-PLUS support page. Make sure that S-PLUS and other programs are not running and that your virus protection is still disabled. Double-click on the patch file and follow the directions.
Unless you wish to install additional modules, you are now ready to re-enable your virus protection and run S-PLUS. Note: For certain S-PLUS processes, for example when activating a java.graph device from within S-PLUS, the Windows Firewall may issue a pop-window with a security alert similar to the one below. You can select to unblock S-PLUS 7.0.
Installing Optional Modules
If you wish to install additional optional modules, you need to make sure that your virus protection is disabled.
Four optional Modules are included in the UVA site license: Finmetrics, EnvironmentalStats, SpatialStats and Wavelets. To install these modules, you will need to get the license number and the installer file for the particular module from the ITC – licensing database at http://www.web.virginia.edu/rescomp . The modules may also be installed from the S-PLUS Cd Master Setup menu. EnvironmentalStats and Finmetrics installations are illustrated step-by-step below, and SpatialStats and Wavelets have similar installations.
Installing the EnvironmentalStats Module
Step 1: Double click the installer file. If you agree to the terms and conditions, click "yes."
Step 2: Click "Unzip." This will extract the necessary files to the directory listed. There is no need to change this location. If it does not exist, the extractor will create it. Do NOT unclick options to start setup.exe when done unzipping.
Step 3: When the extractor finishes unzipping the necessary files, you will see the box shown below. Click "OK." The installer will start automatically.
Step 4: Click next when the Setup menu is displayed.
Step 5: Enter your name,
Step 6: Click on Next.
Step 7: Click on Typical, then Next.
Step 8: Click on Next.
Step 9: Click on Next.
Step 10: Click on Next.
Step 11: You will need to install MathType 4; click on Yes.
Step 12: Click on Next.
Step 13: Click on I Agree.
Step 14: Click on Finish.
Installing the FinMetrics Module
Step 1: Double click the installer file. If you agree to the terms and conditions, click "yes."
Step 2: Click "Unzip." This will extract the necessary files to the directory listed. There is no need to change this location. If it does not exist, the extractor will create it. Do NOT unclick options to start setup.exe when done unzipping.
