  2. Insert the CD containing the Network Installation version of Splus into your CD-ROM drive.
Click on the "Install program/License Manager"

If the setup wizard does not automatically start, located the file called SETUP.EXE on the CD and double-click on it.

  3. A setup wizard will appear and walk you through the steps of installing the Splus software on your machine. When you get to the following screen, enter your name, "University of Virginia", and the serial number you wrote down from the Licensing Webpage in the spaces given.

  4. For type of network, select "TCPIP".

  5. Select a "Custom" installation.

  6. When asked about which components to install, make sure that you DESELECT the "License Manager TCPIP Utilities" and any other License Manager options that are selected. You can select any other options that you want.

  7. Finish the remaining steps in the installation wizard.

  8. After installing the software, you next need to configure your local workstation to communicate with the license manager. For Windows 95/98 machines, you will need to open your AUTOEXEC.BAT file (using a text editor like NotePad) and add the followin g line:

    SET S_ELMHOST=128.143.22.60
    Now, reboot your system.

  9. For Windows NT or Windows 2000 machines, you can modify your environment variables by clicking on Start -- Settings -- Control Panel and double click on the System applet.

For NT 4, select the Environment tab. At the bottom of the window, you will see a Variable and a Value box. Type "S_ELMHOST" in the Variable box and "128.143.22.60" in the Value box. Click "Apply" and then "OK".

For Windows 2000 users, you should see an Advanced tab with an Environment Variables button. Click on it. Under either User or System Variables, click on New. For Variable Name, type "S_ELMHOST" (without the quotes) and for Variable Value, type "128.143.22.60". Click OK, then click Apply back in the main Environment Variables box, and OK until you exit out of the applet.

    One last note:
If you get the error message that SPlus was unable to send a message to the license server, replace the "128.143.22.60" above with "@128.143.22.60 ELMTIMEOUT=60".
