Installing SAS 9.1.3 EAS on Windows XP

Administrator privilege:  Requiring that the installer have administrator privilege ensures that SAS 9.1 Foundation can be completely and safely installed.

NOTE: All programs, including virus-scanning programs, should be closed before beginning the installation.  Make sure that the date and time are correct on your PC.  Many software packages interpret a clock change as an attempt to circumvent the licensing process.  Changing the system clock may disable SAS and cause additional problems.

Licensing database: You must first register your installation of SAS 9.1.3 EAS and download the SID file from the ITC Software Licensing database at http://www.web.virginia.edu/rescomp.  Take care to license the correct version of the software.

These installation instructions are intended for users at UVA who are installing SAS on a Windows PC on which no other versions of SAS are present.  You may also use these instructions to update a SAS 8.x installation, but NOT a SAS 9.1 or 9.1.3 installation. In order to update a SAS 9.1 or 9.1.3 (not EAS) installation, you should first remove that installation using the Windows Control Panel, then drag the SAS folders contained in the Program Files folder to the trash. Reboot your system before installing 9.1.3 EAS, and follow the instructions.

Updating Your Existing SAS 8.x Installation

If you have SAS 8.x on your PC, then you can choose to either

In either case you will follow the instructions below for a New Installation.
