SAS Hot Fixes

Hot Fixes address specific SAS Alert issues uncovered by customers' applications. While the hot fixes have been tested and are fully supported, they have not gone through SAS Institute's full QA process. Therefore, if you are not experiencing the problem that a hot fix addresses, SAS recommends that you continue to use the latest full release of SAS software. Most hot fixes will be incorporated into the next scheduled release. A comprehensive list of all Hot Fixes is available at http://www.sas.com/techsup/download/hotfix/hotfix.html. The page also contains hot fix bundles which simplify the installation process.

Recommendations for SAS 8.2

SAS 8.2 users in particular are reminded to apply the necessary hot fixes regularly.  Currently recommended are two hot fix bundles.  For Base SAS, hot fix bundle 82BX09 is recommended, and for SAS/STAT hot fix bundle 82SX02 is recommended.

Please note that

-- You must have Release 8.2 (TS2M0) installed on your system before applying these hot fixes.

-- You must have Administrator Privileges on your CLIENT or SERVER machine and all currently active SAS sessions must be terminated before applying these hot fixes.

Recommendations for SAS 9.1.3 on PCs

Early SAS 9.1.3 installers may only have Service Pack 2 in the SAS build.  To check your version, start SAS and notice the log.  Installations with Service Pack 3 will display the following note:

NOTE: SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 3

If the installation notes indicate Service Pack 2, then the SAS user is encouraged to take necessary steps to ensure that Service Pack 3 has been installed.  You may get the CD for Service Pack 3 from Research Computing.

Please contact the ITC Research Computing Support Center by e-mailing res-consult@virginia.edu or telephoning 243-8800 if you have any questions or concerns about this upgrade. For more information on SAS 9.1.3 at U.Va., visit the Web page at http://www.itc.virginia.edu/research/sas/

Determining Which Hot Fixes Have Been Installed on Your System

An audit file is a text file installed with every hot fix which contains hot fix specific information such as the hot fix name, product involved, files included in the hot fix, port date, SAS Note numbers and comments. Audit files have the same name as the hot fix (i.e. 82ba01wn.aud) and are installed in a location specific to each host.

Do not delete installed audit files! These files may be used by Technical Support to troubleshoot problems.

On Windows installations, the audit files are installed in !SASROOT\core\sasinst\hotfix .  Here !SASROOT indicates the SAS root directory which by default has a format like C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1  or C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 8.2 depending on the version of SAS installed.

In this directory, an audit file will exist for every hot fix that has been installed. The filenames are in the format of <hot-fix-name><platform-code>.aud

For example !SASROOT\core\sasinst\hotfix\81ba06wn.aud

Remember - download and install hot fixes that are applicable only to the release of SAS you are running.
