New Version of SecureCRT Available

ITC has announced the upgrade of SecureCRT from version 3.4.6 to version 4.0.2. SecureCRT is a telnet program from Van Dyke Technologies that provides data encryption and secure login capabilities. Users of versions prior to 3.4.6 should upgrade at this time to close known security holes.

New features in SecureCRT 4.0.2 include:

  • File based configuration: create a controlled SecureCRT environment customizing toolbars, menus, and the keyboard shortcuts they contain. Create custom toolbars with buttons to open sessions, invoke scripts, and transmit strings.
  • Public Key Assistant: support for a Public Key Assistant makes uploading public keys to an SSH2 server simple and safe for end users.
  • Multi-byte font support: better international support for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean multi-byte character sets.
  • VSH.EXE command-line utility: provides SSH sessions without the SecureCRT window.
  • Enhanced help system: better organization and more detailed instructions on features make it clear how to implement some of the more obscure features.
To find out more about SecureCRT, please visit ITC's SecureCRT information site at http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/securecrt/
