New IP Address for S-Plus License Manager

On December 19, ITC will be moving the S-Plus license manager to a new server. This change will necessitate that users with a network version of S-Plus change the environment variable that provides the location of the license manager to your local machine. If you are unsure whether you are using the network version of S-Plus, open S-Plus, click on Help -- About S-Plus. In the bottom left-hand corner of the dialog box, you should see a line titled "Rev Date." If this line ends with the words, "License Managed", you are using the network version. To change the environment variable, follow the steps below depending on your operating system.

For Windows 95/98 machines, you will need to open your AUTOEXEC.BAT file (using a text editor like NotePad) and add the following line:

SET S_ELMHOST=128.143.22.60

Now, reboot your system.

For Windows NT or Windows 2000 machines, you can modify your environment variables by clicking on Start -- Settings -- Control Panel and double click on the System applet.

For NT 4, select the Environment tab. At the bottom of the window, you will see a Variable and a Value box. Type "S_ELMHOST" in the Variable box and "128.143.22.60" in the Value box. Click "Apply" and then "OK".

For Windows 2000 users, you should see an Advanced tab with an Environment Variables button. Click on it. Under either User or System Variables, click on New. For Variable Name, type "S_ELMHOST" (without the quotes) and for Variable Value, type "128.143.22.60". Click OK, then click Apply back in the main Environment Variables box, and OK until you exit out of the applet.

During the move of the server, the S-Plus license manager will be down from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on December 19.

Interest in SAS Software

The Research Computing Support Group would like to determine user interest in the following SAS software products: SAS/IntrNet, SAS/Warehouse Administrator, Enterprise Miner, SAS/MDDB, AppDev Studio, Scalable Performance Data Server, SAS/Secure, IT Service Vision, Enterprise Reporter, Enterprise Guide, SAS/Access to R3, Integration Technologies.

Please send e-mail to res-consult@virginia.edu if you might be interested in using these products. Also, if you have a strong anticipated need for these products, let us know if your department or organization might be able to share the licensing costs.

SAS Hot Fixes Always Available

SAS is continually refining the current releases of its software. These refinements result in "hot fixes" that solve known bugs with the software. To download the latest hot fixes for SAS 8.1, visit the following URL:
