Other Requirements and Recommendations

Compilers (for MEX-Files)

For the most up-to-date information about compilers, see the support area at the MathWorks Web site (www.mathworks.com).

Step 2: Obtain a License
Before you begin, you must first download the Matlab "license.dat" file and personal license password (PLP) code from the ITC Research licensing database at web.virginia.edu/rescomp/. Please make note of the special instructions on the licensing download page there.

Step 3: Start the Installer
Insert the MathWorks product CD into the CD-ROM drive. The MathWorks installer starts automatically, displaying the Welcome to the MathWorks Installer dialog box.

Select the Install option and click Next.

Step 4: Enter Identification and License Information

Enter your name, company name, and Personal License Password (PLP) in the License Information dialog box and click Next. Your PLP identifies the products you are licensed to install. If your PLP identifies a product that is not on any of CDs, the installer notifies you. To avoid typing errors, copy the PLP from the licensing database and paste it into this dialog box.

Step 5: Specify Location of License File

In the License File Path dialog box, specify the location of your License File that you downloaded from the sofware licensing database.

Step 6: Review the Software Licensing Agreement

Review the software licensing agreement and, if you agree with the terms, select the Yes check box and click Next.

You can view the license agreement after installation in the file license.txt located in the top-level MATLAB installation folder.

Step 7: Specify Type of Installation

Choose the Custom option in this window.

Step 8: Select Toolboxes to be installed

If you have limited hard disk space, UNCHECK (deselect) any toolboxes (components) that you will not use.
Make sure you do not accidentally select the License Manager option.
And You must UNCHECK (deselect) the Simulink Fixed Point toolbox option as shown below.

Step 9: Specify Destination Folder

This dialog box includes a default destination folder, but you can specify another folder.
If the folder doesn't exist, the MathWorks Installer creates it.

Step 10: Confirm Your Choices

Before it begins copying files to your hard disk, the MathWorks Installer displays a summary of your installation choices. To change a setting, click the Back button. To proceed with the installation, click Install.

Installing Products from the Other CDs

If you are installing products that are not on CD 1, the installer prompts you to insert another CD in your CD-ROM drive. After switching the CDs, click OK to continue with the installation.

Step 11: File Associations

Typically, you want to associate these file extenstions with Matlab. If you prefer not to do this, select no.

Step 12: Read Product Configuration Notes

Available product updates -- During installation, the installer attempts to contact the MathWorks Web site to determine if a more recent version of one or more of the products you installed is available for download. Sometimes, newer versions of products are made available on the MathWorks Web site after the CD is produced. If any of the products you installed have updates available, the installer lists them in this dialog box. You must go to the MathWorks Web site to download them after installation is complete.

Click next to continue installation.

Step 13: Complete the Installation

When the MathWorks Installer finishes, it displays the Setup Complete dialog box. In this dialog box, you can choose to start MATLAB as you exit the installer. If you do not want to start MATLAB, clear this check box. Click Finish to exit the installer.

If you have successfully installed Matlab, please return the Matlab Installation CDs to the ITC Research Computing Support Center promptly so that they may be made available to others. Your prompt attention to their return is greatly appreciated.

Step 14: Using Matlab off-grounds

If you are using Matlab from off-Grounds, you will have to go through an authentication process to connect to the Matlab license manager using ITC's VPN client called "UVa Anywhere".

If you need to enable access to U.Va. resources beyond just Matlab's license manager, we recommend using UVa Anywhere. Instructions for installation and download of the client are available at: www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/vpn/uvaany/home.html.

If you need assistance with installation or using the UVa Anywhere client, please contact the ITC Help Desk at 924-3731 or email Consult@Virginia.EDU
