For faculty, staff and students at the University of Virginia, the Computing Support Services branch of ITC provides statistical computing consulting for ITC-supported statistical software packages. Although we can help you with the design and methodology of your study, including the selection of the appropriate analyses and their interpretation, we recommend you first get help with these issues from your departmental colleagues and advisors. We also expect that most users of statistical software will seek assistance from colleagues and appropriate faculty for assistance in understanding the more advanced statistical procedures.
In general, the statistical consultants are present to provide assistance with issues related to the use of statistical software packages to answer research questions. While this often involves issues of actual statistical theory, the user is advised to seek other sources for strictly statistical questions (as opposed to issues about how to utilize software to apply a particular statistical procedure -- such issues are appropriate ones to address to the statistical consultants). For issues related to statistical theory, the user might seek assistance from the Department of Statistics which provides statistical consulting services as well; details about their services can be obtained by calling 924-3222 or from the Department of Statistics webpage.
You may also benefit from taking advantage of other resources available at the University (listed below).
