The department of Information Technology & Communications (ITC) has purchased 2 PC software packages: ELIXIR and XJDC
Elixir provides the ability to interactively design forms, fonts, and graphic images on a screen and then automatically generate the laser printer code for the design.
XJDC is a compiler for JDL code, which dictates printing instructions to the Xerox laser printers. Code generated from these two products can then be transferred online from the Enterprise Server down to the Xerox laser printers without intervention from the Operators.
This document will address special considerations involved with laser printer code transfer, as well as provide a standard procedure that must be followed in order to assure successful code transfer.

The Elixir software resides on a PC workstation located within the Data Control section of ITC. It has been centrally located there because of its requirements for using a large, high-resolution monitor and special hardware to allow for saving Elixir files.

There are differences between how to handle SOURCE-type laser code and how to handle OBJECT-type laser code. Both the source and object codes for all laser forms generated by Elixir must be uploaded to the Enterprise Server storage PDSs; Only the object codes need to be downloaded to the laser printers.
Pay close attention to names being assigned to source and object code members that are to be copied to the laser printers. This transfer procedure does possess the potential to overlay pre-existing target laser members when matching names are specified. Review Naming Standards for laser printer members.
