Elixir:
Online Transfer of Xerox Elixir Laser Printer Code

Introduction

The department of Information Technology & Communications (ITC) has purchased 2 PC software packages: ELIXIR and XJDC

Elixir provides the ability to interactively design forms, fonts, and graphic images on a screen and then automatically generate the laser printer code for the design.

XJDC is a compiler for JDL code, which dictates printing instructions to the Xerox laser printers. Code generated from these two products can then be transferred online from the Enterprise Server down to the Xerox laser printers without intervention from the Operators.

This document will address special considerations involved with laser printer code transfer, as well as provide a standard procedure that must be followed in order to assure successful code transfer.

Location and Use

The Elixir software resides on a PC workstation located within the Data Control section of ITC. It has been centrally located there because of its requirements for using a large, high-resolution monitor and special hardware to allow for saving Elixir files.
