Requirements
- To use the wahoo network, you will need an 802.11b compatible wireless card managed by Windows Vista. If your card is managed by proprietary vendor-supplied software, you may not be able to connect; see our unsupported configuration information.
- You must register your card on the UVa Network Registration site prior to setup. Guests should have this done by their UVa sponsor, or else have PIN access granted by the sponsor or sponsoring event.
Not all wireless cards can connect successfully to the network. In some cases, upgrading the drivers for a non-connecting wireless card will solve the problem. Changes made to allow connection to wahoo may interfere with connections to other networks, and should be reversed when you leave. Write down your original configuration before you change anything.
This document provides configuration instructions for machines running Windows Vista to connect to the wahoo wireless network at the University of Virginia. This connection method is intended for guests, and is not as secure as the cavalier configuration.
Because wahoo is an unencrypted network, guests are encouraged to make use of any VPN resources provided by their own institutions for network data protection.
