MISSION STATEMENT

NAME

Student Information Technology Advisory Committee, referred to as SITAC.

PURPOSE

Represent students and the student view on all matters of information technology and policy. Create a vision for the ideal information technology environment to support student learning and student life at the University of Virginia. Survey other peer institutions to determine the status of facilities, resources and services to support students and assess the current situation at the University against other institutions and against an ideal vision. Identify the highest priority needs. Develop creative ideas for enhancing support available to students. Recommend strategies for developing awareness and practice of ethical uses of IT resources by students. Report findings to the University Committee of Information Technology (UCIT) and the Division of Information Technology and Communication (ITC).

MEMBERSHIP

1. Membership in SITAC will be conferred upon appointment. Appointments to the Committee will be made by the SITAC Chair in conjunction with the Chair of UCIT and the Chief Information Officer of the University.

2. The Committee will have standing representation among its membership from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the School of Commerce. In addition, members from other schools or programs within the University will be represented on a rotating basis.

3. Those eligible for appointment are: all students currently enrolled at the University of Virginia in good standing.

4. All members will have voting abilities.

5. Membership will be revoked by the organization under the following conditions: failure to remain in good standing with the University, or failure to abide by the Committee's purpose as stated in this document.

EXECUTIVE POSITIONS

1. The Chair of the Committee will preside over all meetings, oversee and coordinate group activities, and communicate on behalf of the Committee with outside individuals. The Chair may appoint a Vice Chair to assist the Chair with his or her duties and to preside over meetings in the absence of the Chair.

2. The selection of the Chair will take place prior to the Fall Semester of each academic year. The selection and subsequent appointment to the position of Chair will be conferred by the Chief Information Officer of the University in conjunction with the Chair of UCIT.
