Mission Statement
The charge of the Network-based Information Services committee is to guide and encourage the development of the University's networked information services for academic, administrative, and public purposes. Functions of the committee include:

- Drafting, revision, and recommendation of University policy governing the development and use of the University's public information space, i.e. the virginia.edu Web domain, email, newsgroups, and other electronic means of communication.
- Recommending standards and practices to help the University identify durable and flexible electronic information resources.
- Assessing the University community's awareness of networked information services and identifying needs for communication about and training in their use.
- Designating a University Webmaster to oversee the design, structure, and content of the University's Web pages (as distinct from Web-based materials and functions of schools, departments, and offices).
- Coordinating any overlapping, complementary, or redundant efforts that come to the attention of the committee.
