Agenda for Meeting on November 19, 1998

Our meeting is in Peabody 110, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Topics:

1. Updates on old business

	a. Draft policy on advertising and commercial links -- still with
General Counsel's Office

	b. Comparison of search engines' technical capabilities, as part
of doing cost-benefit analysis of any that might be offered "free"

	c. New space on server: http://indorgs.virginia.edu

	d. Guidance for e-mail list owners; who should monitor our
policy's expectation that owners are to write and publicize guidelines for
access to their list(s)?

2. Webmaster report

	a. Account questions

	b. New institutional pages under construction (foundations, planning
		initiative, president's office)

	c. Feedback from webmaster mail, other sources

3. Web networking: new developments, purposes

	a. Anne Lind's web group

	b. Web administrators (the people we met with once)

4. How to measure a website's effectiveness

What would we want to know? Do we have tools to answer those
questions, or do they need to be designed? (I have information on a
couple of commercial examples, but really am more interested in the
background question -- what kinds of data can help this committee
understand usage of our site, know what improvements to make, perform our
mission as the oversight group?)

5. New business

What should we be working on next? How often do we need to meet
as a whole?
