Agenda: NBIS Meeting on June 15, 2000

We have two main topics for tomorrow's N-BIS meeting (1:30 - 3 p.m. in the
Garrett Hall conference room).

#1. Vice Presidents Bob Sweeney and Bob Reynolds will join us for a
discussion & brainstorming about a question raised by President Casteen at
a recent cabinet meeting. He had seen a presentation about a national
student loan portal and wondered what U.Va. is doing in this area, who here
is assessing or developing new web functions (both administrative and for
the classroom), how the planning is coordinated, etc.

The vice presidents hope to think through with us not only the
substantive answers to those questions, but also ideas about how best to
keep the cabinet informed.

A presentation by Nancy Tramontin on our student portal project
and a proposed team to coordinate the development of e-business
applications will relate closely to the above.

#2. Jim Jokl will brief us on new network services he's considering, such
as virtual hosting and the providing of .org or .com accounts on ITC
servers (in addition to .edu). We'll want to discuss the implications for
existing or proposed policies & procedures. For example, our
no-advertising policy, as approved, covers virginia.edu. Does it need to
-- or can it -- be broader? Are there other ways to give centers & units
the catchy URLs they prefer?
