Academic Computing Advisory Council

Mission Statement

The Academic Council shall, in a pro-active manner, encourage and champion the development of department and school committees and cross-departmental interest groups concerned with information technology issues at the University.

The Council shall be an advocate for widening the use of information technology in instruction and research and shall provide a forum for communication among faculty engaged in information technology from schools and departments through-out the University and with information technology professionals.

The Council shall provide a focal point for policy questions and input from information technology committees from various University schools and shall actively help to build effective relationships between departments, technology service organizations, and University leaders who make decisions on major technology matters.

The Council's role shall be communicative, deliberative, and representative, with meeting times and durations set to facilitate these activities and with e-mail and other electronic means used to stimulate communication between meetings.

The Council shall include a chair and vice chair appointed by the President by the virtue of their membership on the University Committee of Information Technology and members representing various schools and divisions, appointed by their respective deans. It shall have a steering committee to help set the substantive agenda, and shall exchange pertinent information, reports, and recommendations with the specialized expert groups appointed by the CIO as appropriate.

The Council reports to the University Committee on Information Technology on general information technology issues, but the Council may work directly with University information technology service providers (i.e. - ITC, MCC, the University libraries, or other entities) on matters limited to such individual organizations.
