Guest Access to UVa Wireless
Connecting to UVa’s Unencrypted Wireless Networks
Guest Access to the UVa Wireless Network
Guests of the University may access the Internet using a UVa wireless network if they are sponsored by a UVa-affiliated organization or individual. The sponsor also assumes full responsibility for the actions of any guest for whom they register a card or issue a PIN.
Short-Term Guest Access
Short-term University guests may obtain limited access to the Internet using UVa’s unencrypted Welcome_to_UVa_Wireless network.
With this method, guests input a passcode obtained from a sponsoring UVa-affiliated organization or individual.
Limitations
Guest connections using a passcode are time-limited and permission-limited, meaning that after a guest passcode expires, the guest will no longer have access. (The UVa sponsor should inform the guest of their passcode’s expiration when the passcode is given.) Also, only basic Web surfing and VPN access is allowed.
Connection Instructions
Guests should ask their UVa sponsor to go to Guest Passcodes for Wireless Access to generate a passcode for them. Then, guests should:
- Connect to the Welcome_to_UVa_Wireless network.
- Open a Web browser, and you’ll be automatically directed to the guest portal.
- Click the Continue button under the Guest section and enter your passcode. You will then have (limited) access to the Internet.
Long-Term Guest Access
Long-term University guests may obtain full access to the Internet using UVa’s unencrypted wahoo wireless network.
With this method, guests register their computer or device on the UVa network and then configure it.
Registration
- Your UVa-affiliated sponsor can register your device for you using the UVa Network Device Registration; or
- You may register your computer or device on our network yourself, using the Guest Network Registration and a PIN provided by your UVa-affiliated sponsor.
Configuration Instructions
After you have registered on the University network, follow the appropriate configuration instructions:
