Configuring Opera with the MMS Protocol

[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.

The Opera browser must have the MMS protocol added to the standard configuration in order to start up the Windows Media Player automatically.
Note: The ability to add a protocol to the Opera browser was introduced after version 6. The following instructions are based on version 7.54.
  1. Choose the Tools menu from the top bar in the main browser window.
    Tools Menu
  2. Choose Preferences.
    Preferences
  3. A large window with a long list on the left side will be displayed.
    Choose Programs and Paths.

  4. The currently configured list of protocols will be shown (typically this is very short, consisting of Telnet and TN3270). Choose Add.
    Add
  5. Type mms in the Protocol field. The information in the middle field will be updated to display the path to the Windows Media Player, typically C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe. Be sure to mark the radio button beside the Open with Default Application note.
    Open with default application
  6. Now the list of protocols will include mms. Click OK.
