[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.
Recommended Actions:
-
Review Network Registration documentation at http://www.itc.virginia.edu/network-registration/ .
-
Identify an administrator and co-administrator(s) for each group. (Select people who need access to the network registration tools to delete/add devices or members for each group and are responsible for equipment in the case of a compromise.)
-
Submit completed "Request for Departmental Group Administrator Access to Network Registration Tools" for each administrator and co-administrator to the ITC Help Desk.
-
Meet with Network Systems and Departmental Computing Support representatives to plan transition.
-
Determine registration groups for network devices and names for each group. (i.e. name "EN Civil Engineering Lab," "EN Civil Engineering Faculty and Staff," etc.)
-
Create one or more Mailman lists which can be used to notify the group administrator and co-administrator(s). Each list should include at least the administrator and co-administrator(s) but could contain more names if you choose. (For example, you could have two people as admins for a group but specify a support mailing list that includes those two people. For ITC Network Systems, we used a mailing list that contains our whole team and is used for on-call, even though we have only two admins for one of our groups.)
-
Complete the Request for Departmental Network Registration Groups form: List all group names, associated Mailman mailing list, and group administrator IDs for each group. In the comments field, please specify request - new group, delete group, add group admin, update mailing list, etc. The completed form should be submitted to the ITC Help Desk at 2015 Ivy Road; call 924-3731 for directions or more info.
-
Use the tools to assign users to groups in network registration database.
-
Notify Network Systems if you want a current list of all devices already registered for users assigned to your groups. (i.e., all wireless devices are already registered to individuals and you may want to offer special instructions to those people on how update their registrations to include a group or to delete registrations so that they can be re-registered to the group) .
-
Notify Departmental Computing Support if you want the information from the old voluntary registration system for users assigned to your groups. (This is helpful if the information in that system is correct and you decide to import it into the new system.)
-
Determine which devices will be registered prior to implementation date, and register those in the network registration database.
-
Determine if on cut-over date all yet-to-be registered devices will be rebooted or alternatively rebooted when their DHCP lease expires (may be the next day or so).
-
Draft instruction sheet for visitors (a couple of examples can be found on the website).
-
Finalize implementation date with Network Systems.
-
Inform department members of need to transition to required network registration, the time/date and how you want them to proceed.
