ITC's MS SQL Service

Many departments need a more robust database environment than Microsoft Access, but cannot afford the overhead of a Microsoft SQL server. ITC's MS SQL Service provides a shared Microsoft SQL Server 2000 as a low cost solution.

Storage can be leased according to the rates and guidelines described on the disk rate page. There is a one-time set up fee of one hour at $44 for each database, and an annual charge of $346 for application recovery. This provides revenue to replace the hardware, licenses and staff time to provide the service.

The departmental database adminsitrator will have all the priviledges of
a database owner in SQL Server. Database authentication can be via local SQL accounts, or using NT Authentication with Eservices accounts.

To request a MS SQL service account please e-mail itc-microsystems@virginia.edu with the request and include the following information:

  • The owner's contact information
  • Amount of storage required (minimum one gigabyte)
  • The PTAO that will support the account

For questions or additional information please e-mail itc-microsystems@virginia.edu
