The Microsoft Campus Agreement at UVa licenses several of the most commonly-used Microsoft products for nearly all undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students (including those at the Law, Medicine, Darden schools). Only students in Continuing Education are excluded from participating in the contract.
Under the terms of the student agreement, students may use a licensed copy of the latest version of Microsoft Windows and Office for as long as they are at UVa, and retain the licenses upon leaving the University.
Fall 2008 Returning Students
All returning students as of Move-In Saturday (Aug. 23, 2008) can purchase and install Microsoft Office or the Windows Vista operating system for just $10 from Cavalier Computers in the UVa Bookstore.
Under this agreement, current students can upgrade their computer’s operating system from Windows XP to Vista, or obtain a copy of Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows or Office 2008 for the Mac, at a significant savings from the full-priced Microsoft software, or even the educational discount pricing previously available. A valid UVa student ID is required at purchase.
Fall 2008 Incoming Students
For New Students Who Purchase DCI Computers from UVa's Cavalier Computers
Incoming students who purchase any DCI student computer model (from summer 2008 and beyond) will have Microsoft Office pre-installed at no charge.
But no backup Microsoft Office software CD is included with the DCI computer. So, students who would like a copy of the Office CD for backup purposes should purchase it for $10 from Cavalier Computers after Move-In Saturday (Aug. 23, 2008). A valid UVa student ID is required at purchase.
For New Students Who Purchase Non-DCI Computers
Incoming students who purchase computers from vendors other than Cavalier Computers may still take advantage of UVa's Campus Agreement by getting a computer without Microsoft Office pre-installed. Then, once they arrive on Grounds in the fall, these students may purchase the software CD for just $10 from Cavalier Computers in the UVa Bookstore.
Students can purchase and install Microsoft Office or the Windows Vista operating system anytime after Move-In Saturday (Aug. 23, 2008). A valid UVa student ID is required at purchase.
