UVa's Microsoft Contracts

Obtain Software under the Select Contract

The Select Contract works differently than buying a retail version of software. Under the Select Contract, you buy the different parts of the software—the license, the disks, the manuals, the software upgrade insurance—all separately, and the only part you have to buy is the license. You can use CDs or DVDs from other Select purchases, or download your software free from the ITC Select CD Server.

How to Obtain Your Software

You can access any of the available Microsoft software covered by the Select Contract in one of two ways: by downloading it from a secure website, or by purchasing a disk set.

Download

Email tony@virginia.edu and request access to your desired software on the ITC Select CD Server. You will receive a response within five business days (and often, much more quickly than that) with instructions.

  • You may burn your own CDs from the downloads for backup purposes.
  • CD keys for the products you are installing are available by emailing tony@virginia.edu.
  • This method is free of charge, and no PTAO is needed, as long as you’re a University employee.
  • While the download is free to UVa users, you must still buy a license.

Disk(s)

Or, place an order for a disk set from Software House International using the UVa Marketplace.

  • With this method, you have a backup copy on hand, should your computer crash.
  • You must notify ITC's Program Administrator of your purchase for record-keeping. (See placing your order.)
  • CD keys for the products you are installing are available by emailing tony@virginia.edu.
  • This costs about $23 per product.

Important: The disk option is for anyone who would like a hard copy of their software on CD, and for anyone using the work-at-home provision of the Select Contract. For "Work at Home" use under the Select Contract, LSPs can obtain a copy of a user's desired software on CD and return the form to ITC for record-keeping. There is no additional charge.

Trial Versions

Any of the products on the UVa Microsoft Select Contract may be used without charge for evaluation for up to thirty days without charge. After 30 days, the software must be uninstalled, or a license must be purchased. To obtain a license key to install evaluation copies, email the UVa License Administrator at tony@virginia.edu.
