Home Directory Service: FTP Setup Instructions for Secure FX

You can use Secure FX to upload your content pages to the Web server. A secure FTP client is required to upload content to the Web server.

Set Up the Connection

  1. When Secure FX starts up, you should see the Connect window. Click on New Session.

  2. Set the protocol to SFTP using the dropdown box.

  3. Enter the server address blue.unix.virginia.edu in the Host Address input box.

  4. Enter your user name in the Username input box.

  5. Enter the initial directory.

    The directory should be /home/[COMPUTING_ID]/public_html/ where [COMPUTING_ID] is your UVa computing ID.
  6. Enter the name you want to appear in the connection window in the Session name input box.

Connect to the Server

  1. Click on the Connect button in the Connect window that popped up after you finished the Wizard.

  2. Enter your UVa computing ID in the Username input box, and use your blue.unix password.

  3. Browse through the directories and upload your site content to public_html.
