Frequently Asked Questions about Using Mobile Devices with the UVa Exchange Service

Answers to FAQs about Using Mobile Devices with the UVa Exchange Service

How do I configure my smartphone or mobile device for my UVa Exchange account?

ITS offers specific Exchange configuration instructions for the following types of mobile devices:

Why must I set a passcode on my mobile device?
This is a UVa policy associated with accessing Exchange on your mobile device. For your security, before you can connect a mobile device to Exchange, you must set a passcode lock (or timeout PIN). Anytime your phone or device has been idle for a set amount of time, it will auto-lock. You will have to enter a passcode to release the auto-lock and begin using your device again. (You can set this time interval on your device, but most will not allow longer than 15 minutes.) You will be prompted to create a 4-character personal timeout PIN the first time your device syncs with Exchange. Be sure you set a passcode you can remember, because after 10 consecutive bad login attempts, your device will be wiped!
I lost my smartphone or mobile device. What do I do? How do I remotely wipe my data?
Remotely wiping a lost device is another required UVa policy associated with accessing Exchange on your mobile device. To do this:
  1. Log into Outlook Web App (OWA).
  2. Click on “Options” on the righthand side, then “See All Options” from the dropdown, then “Phone” from the menu on the left.
  3. You will be shown a list of mobile devices which you have used to connect to the UVa Exchange Service via ActiveSync.
  4. Click to highlight the name of lost device you want to wipe (remove all data). Click Wipe Device... and follow the instructions provided.
