Configure IMAP Settings for Other Email Programs

Recommended email programs to use the UVa centralized Exchange server: Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Entourage 2004. This page contains information needed to configure an IMAP connection to Exchange in other email programs (like Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Eudora) to use the UVa centralized Exchange server.

You will need to know your Eservices/Exchange password, and have a UVa centralized Exchange account to be able to connect via IMAP to the UVa centralized Exchange server.

IMAP Settings for the UVa Centralized Exchange Server

All ports are standard and do not need setting.

  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.eservices.virginia.edu
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mail.virginia.edu
  • Secure connection: SSL
  • email address: UVa Computing ID@eservices.virginia.edu
    Example email address: mst3k@eservices.virginia.edu
  • IMAP Server Directory:   (leave empty)
  • LDAP Configuration (for Directory Services) LDAP server: ldap.virginia.edu
    Search base: o=University of Virginia,c=US
Should you choose to use Outlook, Entourage, or the Outlook Web interface (OWA) to view your calendar, and an IMAP email program to access the UVa centralized Exchange server to view your email messages, be careful to avoid deleting any calendar messages with your IMAP email program. Email and calendar are closely tied on the Exchange Server, and you will need to process calendar messages with Outlook, Entourage, or OWA to have calendar entries appear on your Exchange calendar.
