Question
1:
I
went to view my Web page, and I got an error message that says "Access
Denied". What's going on?
Answer:
The file permissions for your Web page have probably been changed.
This often happens if you use Home Directory Service to modify your
pages. To fix it, go to the following Web page:
http://www.people.virginia.edu/homedir
Log
in with your computing id and password, and then click the link
to "Set your World Wide Web file permissions". Reload
your Web page, and it should be fixed. If you want more information
on file permissions and how they effect you, you may want to take
at our on-line course materials for "UNIX
for Web Designers".
Question
2:
I'm
trying to publish my Web page. When I enter my password, it says
it is incorrect. I know I am typing it right, so what's the problem?
Answer:
In most cases, the password you use to upload your Web page via
FTP or Home Directory Service is not the same password you use to
read your e-mail -- it is your blue.unix password. If you have forgotten
your password, you should contact the ITC Help Desk at 434-924-3731
for instructions on how to have it reset.
Question
3:
My
perl script won't run. What should I do?
Answer:
There are a variety of reasons why a perl script may not run. We
have put together a Perl script troubleshooting document, which
you may find at:
http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/web/perl_scripts.html
Question
4:
I
'm trying to download a program from Software Central, but when
I click on the link to download, it says "File not found".
What's going on?
Answer:
If you are dialing in from a non-U.Va. Internet service provider,
you will need to configure your browser to use U.Va.'s proxy server
in order to download many of the software titles. You may find information
on the proxy server at:
http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/proxy
Question5:
When
updating a shared Web site (such as a departmental site, or a faculty
site), you get an error suggesting that you are no allowed to write
or upload a file.
Answer:
Your site probably needs to have its file permissions adjusted.
