Some of the warning signs that a virus warning isn't real:

  • Lots of CAPITAL LETTERS in the warning
  • Recommendations that you circulate it to everyone you know
  • No link to an authoritative source of information

Legitimate virus information is usually stated in a calm manner, comes from a recognized source, and will provide a link to a page providing reliable up to date information.
