5. Run "Norton Live Update" and then run a scan of your hard drive (the "C" drive)

This will update the components of Norton Anti-Virus and install the latest virus definitions. The scan will make sure that your hard drive is free of any known viruses, worms, and other "nastiness".

6. Run Windows Security Analyzer

Windows security analyzer (Requires you be at SP2 - lets you know if your machine is secure, and recommendations from Microsoft on how to improve your system's security settings.)
