Does it matter if I use Windows XP Home edition or Windows XP Professional Edition?
Windows XP Home cannot be part of a Windows Domain, which prevents use of some remote configuration/diagnostic options, and may make access to file sharing services or networked printers difficult or impossible. The School of Architecture specifically recommends XP Professional. Departments using shared file servers and networked printers may find XP Professional a better choice.
Currently no centrally provided services require XP Professional. This may change in coming years to take advantage of single-sign-on capabilities, but no specific plans exist.
The VPN for Oracle won't install.
The latest version will install with Oracle. But, Windows XP is not certified for use with the Integrated System, and there have been reports that Discoverer cannot be installed. Questions regarding compatibility between the Integrated System and ISP must be directed to the Integrated Systems office. ITC has no control over those decisions.
