Moving CMS Mail to Hotmail

For those who use Hotmail for the summer.

The steps for moving CMS Email messages that are in your U.Va. mailbox to your Hotmail (or other) mailbox are as follows:

  1. Go to the Web Mail web site.
  2. Log in using the same ID and password you use for email on the Central Mail Service (CMS).
  3. On the right side of the screen, in the box that indicates the number of messages to display (it appears to the left of the DISPLAY button), change the value to the largest possible so that all your existing INBOX messages appear.
  4. Click the DISPLAY button.
  5. Click the check box to the left of the word "Status", above the listing of messages.
  6. Redirect the messages to the appropriate address.
  7. If you have folders you want on the new account, select a folder that contains messages you want to forward to the new account and redirect the messages therein using the process described above.
  8. Repeat these steps until you have forwarded all wanted messages in your folders.

You will need to establish an automatic forward (auto-forward) from your Central Mail Service (CMS) account to your hotmail.com account so that new, incoming messages to your CMS account can be sent automatically to your hotmail.com account. To establish this auto-forward:

  1. Go to the Web Mail web site.

  2. Login.

  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. Click the link in the left column for Forwarding.
  5. Complete the form to enable forwarding.
  6. Click the Update button.

Please be aware of the following if you are going to use hotmail.com to receive your U.Va. email:
