LiveUpdate for Macintosh OS X
(Norton Scheduler)
LiveUpdate allows users who are connected to the Internet to update Norton AntiVirus definitions immediately or on a regular scheduled basis. If you hear of a new virus or receive an announcement from ITC regarding a new virus, use LiveUpdate to get the latest antivirus definitions.
New viruses are being created all the time! Antivirus software is useless unless you keep the antivirus definitions up to date.
1. Go to the Applications folder, open the Norton Solutions folder and double click on the LiveUpdate icon.

2. The LiveUpdate screen will open. Click on Update Everything Now if this is your first update.
3. You will see the authenticate window asking your your administrator name and password. Enter the information and click on OK. Depending on the number of items that need updating you may be asked to authenticate more than once.

5. If there are any updates available for Norton AntiVirus or any other Norton product you have installed on your computer, they will be downloaded and installed. When completed you will see LiveUpdate Summary similar to the one below.

6. At this point the downloaded and installed updates are active. However ITC recommends that you configure LiveUpdate to run automatically. To do this click on OK and then click on the Norton Scheduler button. You will see the Norton Scheduler window.

If you have had any LiveUpdate schedule created Norton Scheduler will show that. To create a new LiveUpdate task click on the LiveUpdate button. to edit an existing LiveUpdate task, highlight the event and click on the Edit button.
8. A task window will appear. Name the LiveUpdate task anything you like.

9. Choose All Products from the drop-down menu Choose a product to update.
10. Set the Frequency and select the day and time. New antivirus updates usually come out monthly. For greater security set LiveUpdate for a daily update.
11. Click on the red close button and save the changes.

It is a good idea to run an initial antivirus scan.
1. Go to the Applications folder then Norton Solutions and double-click on the Norton AntiVirus application.
2. The Norton AntiVirus main screen will open.

3. Click once on the Macintosh HD icon and/or any volumes that you want to have scanned and then click on the Scan/Repair button from the row of icons on the right side of your Norton antivirus main screen. Your computer is now protected from future virus infections.
You should run a virus scan after downloading the latest virus definitions via the LiveUpdate scheduler. This can also be scheduled. To do this:
1. Go to the Applications folder then Norton Solutions and double-click on the Norton AntiVirus application.
2. The Norton AntiVirus main screen will open.

3. From the row of icons on the right click on Scheduler...
4. The Norton AntiVirus Scheduler window will open.

5. Click on the AntiVirus button and the Add AntiVirus Task window will open.

6. Name the task/schedule anything you like such as Scan All.
7. Select an item to scan: Click on the Select button and make your selection then click on the Open button.

8. You will come back to the Add Antivirus Task window.

9. Click on the red close button and save the changes.

You will see that the Antivirus schedule has been added to the Norton Scheduler window.

8. Click on the red close button.
