Error Message: "Cannot find installation path for application"

If the installer for the VPN software gives the above error message, there is a quick and easy fix:

  1. Double-click the Windows Explorer icon (the "My Computer" icon).
  2. Double-click the C: drive icon.
  3. Double-click the Program Files folder icon.
  4. Locate the folder named InstallShield Installation Information located under the Program Files folder; it may have a grayed-out, or faded, appearance. If you cannot see the folder InstallShield Installation Information, skip to step #6 in these instructions.

  6. Delete the folder named InstallShield Installation Information (either single-click the folder icon and press the Delete key on the keyboard or right-click the folder once and select Delete from the resulting menu, and confirm your choice). You are finished; skip the remaining steps in these instructions...you should now be able to successfully run the VPN installation software. If you have problems with these instructions, call the ITC Computing Help Desk at (434) 924-3731, Mon–Fri, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  8. If you cannot see the folder named InstallShield Installation Information under the Program Files folder, then in Windows Explorer (the My Computer icon), click the View menu item, and click Folder Options on the resulting menu; a Folder Options window appears.

     

  9. Near the top of the Folder Options window that appears, click the View tab.
  10. In the View tab window, under the Hidden Files item, click the radio button named Show all files to select it, and click OK.
  11.  

     

  12. Close the Windows Explorer (My Computer) window that you opened earlier.
  13. Start again with step #1 in these instructions.
