ISP System and User Setup Process

Integrated System Getting Started

To connect to the University of Virginia Integrated System you need to do some early preparation one time. Depending on how you use the Integrated System you will need to connect with a web browser or connect with Discoverer to access information.

This set of steps typically only need to be done once per machine and user. For most steps the order is not critical, but you must have an appropriate machine before you install any software. You must have an Integrated System account before you can get a VPN account, but you can install the software before you have any accounts.

The account creation for VPN requires that you have an Oracle account (it need not be activated, just created) and an account on another system that can be verified. You will not be able to get a VPN account until the Integrated System has created your Oracle account

Local reports from Discoverer and printing from your web browser can be done to any printer you can reach with any other windows application.

Note: Best results have been obtained using Postscript printers and printer drivers, particularly if you are going to scale reports. Your LSP, school or department support staff, or ITC help desk
System Reports from Oracle require that your printer be defined as a system printer http://www.virginia.edu/isp/5archives/oracleprintingreg.doc ITC Help Desk

Copies of the Discoverer CD are to be distributed at Discoverer training classes after you have signed a license agreement. And are available at the LSP Tech Server.

Installing Discoverer may alter your autoexec.bat file - it must be saved prior to starting the installation, and you will need to edit the resulting autoexec.bat file.
