Changing your Email Password

Information about selecting a suitable password for either system can be found at the web site at:

http://www.itc.virginia.edu/pubs/basics/accounts/passwords.html


If your email account is located on the Central Mail Service (CMS), you can change your password by:

  • Visiting the web site at:

    http://config.mail.virginia.edu

  • Logging in with your U.Va. Computing ID (example: mst3k ) and password
  • Choosing the option that has to do with changing your password

If your email account is located on the unix.mail server, you can change your password by:

  • Establishing a secure telnet session to:
    blue.unix.virginia.edu
  • Logging in with your U.Va. Computing ID (example: mst3k ) and password
  • From the Umenu Menu, selecting:

    System Customization

    Change your password

    and then responding to the prompts you see.

    or

    From the Unix system prompt, typing:

    passwd

    pressing the Enter or Return key on your keyboard

    and then responding to the prompts you see.
