Printable Tutorial (pdf)

PC - Any file can be attached to and sent with a Eudora message. Most of the time, an attached document functions like a “rider” to the email message, and does not appear within the message text. Instead, the name of the document appears automatically in the Attached field of the message header.

To attach a file to an outgoing message, do the following:

From the Message menu, choose Attach File, or select the icon Attach File icon. The Attach File dialog box appears.

Attach File dialog box

Locate the file you want, select it, and click Open to attach the document to the current message or to open a new message with the file attached. You can add as many attachments as you want to a message (although 400K is the limit of attachment size that will transmit reliably). The file path to attachments will show in the Attached field of the message.

You can also drag one or more files from either the desktop or the File Browser window onto the message window to attach them.

To remove an attached document before the message is sent, select the document name in the Attached field; then press either the Backspace key or the Delete key.

When the message is sent, if the chosen document is not a plain text (ASCII) file, it is encoded in the selected attachment type. This allows you to send any kind of document through the mail, even applications.

Reading an Attachment

Attachments will appear as file icons at the bottom of an email message, and can be opened by simply clicking on them. Eudora will give you a warning message regarding viruses, and you should always check attachments for viruses before opening them, especially if you don't know the sender. Attachments are saved to a folder at C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora\Attach if your system is configured with the default settings, and can be checked for viruses using your virus protection software from there. Eudora DOES NOT automatically check attachments for viruses.

Mac - Any file can be attached to and sent with a Eudora message. Most of the time, an attached document functions like a “rider” to the email message, and does not appear within the message text. Instead, the name of the document appears automatically in the x-Attached field of the message header. It is recommended that the correct PC extension be added to the file name if the file is being sent to a PC or a mixed audience. Also, remember to set the Settings/Attachments Encoding method to Apple Double (MIME) (as mentioned on the configuration page).

To attach a file to an outgoing message, do the following:

From the Message menu, choose Attach Document, or select the icon Attach File icon from the toolbar. The Attach Document dialog box appears.
