Objectives
After
completing this workshop unit, you will have gained the skills
and knowledge necessary to accomplish the following:
- Identify
U.Va.'s computing network infrastructure and topology
- Recognize
the three most prevalent networking protocols at U.Va. and
describe when using each is appropriate
- Define
the role of the Domain Name Server (DNS) and Internet addressing
- Locate
the networking control panel of a PC and identify configuration
fields
- Locate
U.Va. on-line network configuration information
- Describe
the functions and uses of the Home Directory Service
- Describe
Home Directory Service Login program installation issues
- Describe
computer network configuration issues
- Perform
various Home Directory Service functions, including: using
the HDS login program, saving a file, retrieving a file,
and setting access permissions
- Execute
necessary Home Directory Service maintenance steps, including:
deleting and restoring files from snapshot folders and checking
the quota level
