The Desktop Computing Initiative provides UVA Department’s environmental technology solutions in accordance with the University’s Sustainability goals (see below).

DCI offers:

• Energy-saving computers – Most DCI computers are Energy Star rated.
• Recycling of parts and computers through the manufacturer – DCI does not contribute to the local landfills by sending back old computers and parts to the manufacturer.
• Hybrid delivery vehicle – DCI uses a Ford Escape Hybrid for many of its deliveries.

Sustainability as an explicit University goal

Three policies provide an explicit direction on environ­mental and sustainability issues at the University. In ad­dition to regulation-based policies guiding the use and disposal of hazardous, toxic or sensitive material, the University has enacted the following policies:

• Recycling
• Environmental Management
• Energy Management and Sustainability

DCI Student Purchases
