Departmental Applications Development

A Division of Applications and Data Services

Customized Solutions for Data Management Needs

The Departmental Applications Development group (part of the Applications and Data Services Division of ITC) was formed in the spring of 1998 as a response to the University's concerted effort to expand the role of research. Researchers had identified the need for many varied technology services - frequently specialized needs that arise on an ad hoc basis. Academic and core business departments required specialized programming. ADS Director Don Reynard conceived the idea of an ITC group that could fulfill such Grounds-wide needs on a for-fee basis - and thus the Departmental Applications Development (DAD) group was born.

Staffed by both full and part-time professionals, DAD specializes in meeting technology needs with an approach tailored specifically to each situation. Consulting, software development, database management, and Web site design and implementation solutions are all provided with an understanding of the University's technology environments and business practices. Customers have appreciated having a business organization within U.Va. to provide these services.
