MyUVa JASIG UPortal Implementation Project

[Jul 17, 2008 14:02] The feature in Xpressions that notifies a user by email when they receive a voice mail is currently not working. Siemens is aware of the problem and is working on it. This does not affect any other aspect of Xpressions.

MyUVa is a local implementation of a java-based portal infrastructure developed and maintained by a consortium of universities under the aegis of JA-SIG (Java Special Interest Group). The infrastructure, dubbed 'UPortal', provides an API for developing content 'channels' which may encompass whole web applications or functionally abbreviated versions of full-blown applications. UPortal then allows authenticated users to customize grids of channels organized onto tabs.

The MyUVa implementation greatly extends uPortal to provide access to a broad range of University services and information. Each channel is a kind of gateway to an existing application somewhere in the University web presence, and MyUVa aggregates snapshots of such applications, providing Virtual Single Sign-on, personalization, and customization.
